Richard Teel

Richard Teel, born Aug 16 1833 in Covintgon County Alabama to John and Anna Teel, is not an ancestor of any of the Basses that I’m aware of, but two of his brothers and a sister married two Bass sisters and a Bass brother. Many double first cousins called him uncle and two of his sister Jane’s sons (Benjamin Wilson Bass, b. 1860 and William Riley Bass, b. 1862) were raised in his home, with the help of his mother Anna Teel [Pagett], in Texas after their parents died during the Civil War.

During the war Richard served as a Corporal in Co. B 25 Regiment of the Texas Calvary, CSA. He had settled in Saratoga Texas before the war and returned there after it ended.

Richard and the Teel family were prominent enough in the area to be mentioned on a historical marker and have their family cemetery preserved in the Big Thicket National Preserve.

A very interesting relative to me.
