Bass Family Record

The Bass Family Record is an ongoing genealogical research project aimed at collecting and correcting family records of the Bass family.

Thank you for your interest in our family.  Whether you are a part of the Bass family or not I hope that you will enjoy and be informed by what has been put together here. The Bass Family Record is a compilation of the efforts of many people over the years.  I am aware of three previous, significant, records prepared and printed at different times and one book of family stories.

Much of these texts have been included, at least in part. As with so many things in our family, I feel it is a blessing to have more information than you can reasonably include in one publication.

Thank you is not enough to express the appreciation I have for the work done to make my work in preserving and maintaining these records possible and so much more productive than I could have done on my own.

Genola Bass Spence and Glynda Wilkinson Cupp assembled the foundation of this record and published it for the family in 1968.  There was an update of that record published in July of 2000 but no part of that record indicated an individual taking credit for the update, only to contact Kim DiMaria if you would like a copy. The title of those records was “Bass Family Record”, and I have titled my record and web site in honor of the work and love they put into creating those original documents that mean so much to me.

Another record was printed for the James Bennet Bass Family (my family), I am not sure of the timing of that one, though I do have a copy. I understand that Faye Hammack Bass updated and published another version in the late 80s, but I do not have a copy.

Hazel Bass Trawick compiled the book of Bass family stories in 1994. With her permission, many of the stories are included on my website, with more to come.

It is my goal and hope to continue working on these records, to update them as the family grows, associate relationships and family history with documentation as well as personal accounts and pictures.

The printed copy many of you have from June of 2016 represents my initial effort. The book represented the compilation and reorganization of previous documents as well as some added discoveries and documentation, some now removed due to inconsistent documentation.

Since that time, I have updated my records with family additions of which I am aware. The additions are from personal correspondents with the family involved and online resources, such as census records and other digital documents.  This book and BassFamilyRecord.com are, as all records of its kind are, a work in progress. Documenting, expanding and proving the legitimacy of the data will be ongoing.

These records are both incomplete and imperfect; in my work I have found and corrected errors in dates, spelling, gender, relationship and names.  It is inevitable that I have also duplicated and created other mistakes of the same kinds.  If you notice any mistakes, missing information or individuals omitted from this record please let me know.

God Bless,

Nicholas Bruce Bass
